While in Europe they taught a triangle principle (Tan-Sao pointing to the opponent) for attacks from the outside which was mechanically wrong, the rectangle principle was one of the first ideas that I taught two decades ago. This principle, like many others, is neither secret nor attributable to YipMan's pre-Hong Kong time in Foshan. It's simply a question of whether you or your teacher were shown it.
